This training session is intended for those leading worship services in Care Homes and Sheltered Accommodation. The session is designed to last about two and a half hours, with a short break for tea/coffee. The tutor should have some experience of the situation in Homes and give practical demonstrations of problems and opportunities.
This is of necessity a very practical training session and will involve much participation by the delegates, and some critical commenting by the tutor! Wherever possible the tutor should encourage people to develop individual gifting. This is intended to be training to build people up, not to knock them out. Try to be sensitive to those who may be struggling and help them to see what they are good at. The programme includes:
- The Environment – Room size, Windows, etc.
- How we appear to the Residents
- Setting the Scene and visual aids
- The Audience/Congregation
- The Occasion – make it a Church Service, not an “entertainment”
- Reading Aloud
- How to engage Residents
- Dealing with Problems
- Practical Training – speaking, reading styles, giving one-minute talks, praying out loud.
