This training session is intended for those who are considering going into Care Homes to visit Residents on a one-to-one basis, to give spiritual help and encouragement.
The session is designed to last about two and a half hours, with a short break for tea/coffee, and the tutor should have some experience of the Home environment. The programme includes:
- Goals: Exactly what are we trying to do (and not do)
- General Points: CRB check, personal insurance, liaise with Manager, family, other agencies.
- Do’s and don’ts at each visit.
- Understanding Loss
- Listening/empathizing/touching
- Care for the dying – questions people ask, honesty
- How to minister - comfort, support, offer security, minister to the spirit.
- Practical work within the group
- Resources
- Items for pastoral visitors
- Items to leave with residents
- Spiritual needs evaluation guide
- Handout – “The grief process”
- List of appropriate scriptures.
